ABOUT ME

I am a California native who has been in education as a teacher and administrator for 20 years. I received my Bachelor's from UC Santa Barbara, a Master's of Arts in Bilingual Education from UC Santa Cruz, and a Master's of Education in Administration and Supervision from Tennessee State. I have taught English, Social Studies, Reading, and English Language Development to elementary school students, middle school students, and non-traditional high school students.

I have been an administrator at a non-traditional school, a high school, and most recently an elementary school. All my administrative experience has been in public schools. I have taught and worked as an administrator in such exotic places as Berkeley, CA; Monterrey, Mexico; Nashville, TN; Lompoc, CA, and now in Nipomo, CA.

I am very proud about many parts of my career. One of the highlights, however, was when I was principal at Fillmore ES. During my time there we applied for the CA Gold Ribbon School Award. We were the first in Lompoc Unified to acquire enough devices so our students, over 80% of which are on free and/or reduced lunch, are 1:1 with computer devices in our upper grades, and we worked hard to authentically learn how to integrate this new technology. In 2016 we were awarded the CA Gold Ribbon Award for our program called "Building 21st Century Learners." Students now only used these digital tools to take care of school work, but we even had 2nd graders building career schools through CAD programs and 3D printing. Throughout my career I have been committed to helping students acquire the 21st Century skills they so need to be successful in high school, college and beyond.

I have three children, and they keep me quite busy when I am not working at a school. My wife is the brains of our outfit. She is a professor of elementary literacy education at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Other than spending time with my family, I enjoy surfing, playing basketball, hiking, movies, and food.
